Chair - Melodie Cook

Melodie Cook is an Associate Professor at the University of Niigata Prefecture. She originally comes from Canada. She is a long-time member of JALT and has held various chapter positions, such as Membership Chair, Program Chair, and President. She is currently the Programs Chair of Niigata JALT. She has also held editorial positions, such as Associate Editor then Editor of JALT Journal and is currently a Senior Editor for PCP. Her research interests are in teacher education and the expatriate experience of education in Japan. She is also an advocate for adoption and fostering in Japan.
メロディー・クックは新潟県立大学の教授です。出身はカナダです。彼女はJALTの長年にわたるメンバーであり, 会員担当, 企画担当, 部会代表など, さまざまな担当を歴任し, 新潟JALTの企画を担当しています。また、JALTジャーナルの編集員を経て現在はPCPのシニアエディターを務めています。教員教育と日本における外国人の教育経験を研究しています. 彼女は日本での養子縁組と里親制度の提唱者としても活躍しています。
Program Chair Duties
The Program Chair shall be responsible for supervising the arrangements for JALT Niigata chapter meetings, communication with speakers and recruitment of prospective speakers either in person or through the JALT Niigata website (http://jaltniigata.weebly.com/present.html). The Program Chair will plan JALT Niigata events starting with the month of January following the JALT Niigata AGM, and running through to December of the same year. Events may be scheduled beyond the designated time in agreement with a simple majority of Executive Committee members. The Program Chair will survey the JALT Niigata membership as to their needs and desires concerning activities of JALT Niigata. She must also provide timely information to the Publicity Chair.
Hospitality Chair Duties
The hospitality Chair shall be responsible for greeting presenters and ensure they arrive to give their presentation/workshop punctually.
